I have enjoyed art since I was a young child. Very early, I loved drawing, painting, reading about artists, looking at photographs of famous paintings, and visiting museums. Although I had some talent for drawing, I only took one art class during high school (which I loved)! When I seriously began to paint about seven years ago, I found that I enjoyed painting scenes from nature, particularly swamp, marsh, ocean, and garden scenes. Most of my paintings are done from photographs that my friends and I have taken. When I started painting I was using acrylics, but have found that I enjoy working with oils so much more.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, into a family of seven that traveled quite a bit between Atlanta and Toronto, due to the fact that my mother was Canadian. During these trips we visited numerous cities, various historical sites, and wonderful museums. While in elementary school, I loved to draw and construct various projects. In high school, I took one art course my senior year and during college, I took the elementary education requisite Art for Children class. I taught elementary school in Mississippi for three years and kindergarten for four while working on my doctorate. Upon graduation, I took a job at Southeastern Louisiana University where I taught elementary and early childhood education classes for 34 years. Three years before I retired, I had the opportunity to take a painting class from noted artist, Kim Zabbia. I discovered that I loved to paint and when I retired, I started doing it as much as possible. I have taken two HAG summer workshops and plan to take more. Over the last three years, I have sold several paintings in Hammond, Baton Rouge, and Atlanta, which helps me believe that I am becoming an artist!
